The trade truce agreed between Presidents Xi Jinping and Donald Trump at the G20 meeting is looking fragile after Mr Trump tweeted that his team would be “seeing whether or not a REAL deal with China is actually possible”, and “remember, if not I am tariff man”. which was followed by the arrest in Canada of Meng Wanzhou, CFO of Chinese telecoms group Huawei, after an extradition request by the US.

Investors’ increasing concerns about the stability of the truce prompted a steep sell-off of global stocks.
