A Houston police officer was hit by a car Saturday, as the driver fled a fight in a gas station parking lot, police said.
The motorist initially confronted a group recording a video around 9:30 p.m. in a parking lot at Jefferson Street and Emancipation Avenue. The suspect was wielding a table leg with a large nail in it, which he used to hit someone in the head and bash the windows on one of their cars, police said.
Sgt. Jimmy Dodson said a group of Houston police officers in riot gear, who were on standby to work the downtown protest, witnessed the clash and ran over to help.
The suspect got into his vehicle and hit one of the officers. The impact threw her at least six feet, Dodson said. She was hospitalized as a precaution, police said.
The suspect was not immediately identified and it was not yet known if he was in custody or what charges he would face.
The incident happened minutes after a fatal shooting on Scott Street, which police said was unrelated.
