Prayer and prayerfulness

A prayer is an act and prayerfulness is an attitude. More than a prayer, it is prayerfulness that helps. The right attitude serves like a shock absorber against disappointments and failures in life.

Mature, objective response to both pleasant and unpleasant situations comes from prayerful attitude. The act of prayer serves to make one prayerful. And, by being prayerful, one can respond to varying situations effectively without getting affected in any way. This attitude also helps one to accept one’s past, as well as the present situations.

True prayer is the remembrance of the divine in us. The body only gives us an indication that divine life is hidden within us. When the seed breaks, the tree is born. The shell of the seed hides the tree. In the same way, the shell of the ego hides the divine. There is an unseen result of prayer that involves faith. The action and expressed desire bring about a result, which is subtle in nature, unseen, and will definitely manifest at the right time.

There was once a Chinese carpenter who used to make masterpiece furniture. When asked how he create masterpieces consistently, he replied that he would go to the trees and prayerfully make a request to fell them. Only when a tree would give him an intuitive nod, he would cut that tree. Thus, each piece of furniture created out of that wood became a masterpiece. Prayer is efficacious, let it help us manifest the impossible.
