The carrier made its announcement Sunday evening after Vodafone Idea and Bharti Airtel announced their respective tariff hikes, also by about 40%, which will come into effect from December 3.
“While remaining committed to the ultimate interest of the consumer, Jio will take all necessary steps to sustain the Indian telecommunications industry,” Jio said in a statement.
“Jio will continue to work with the government on the consultation process for revision of telecom tariffs and looks forward to participation from all stakeholders,” the carrier added.
Jio’s AIO plans will have fair use policy for calls to other mobile networks. All three carriers combined serve nearly 1 billion customers in India.
