Rising for the third straight month, Maruti Suzuki's wholesale jumps nearly 12% in February

Maruti Suzuki, the country’s largest carmaker, reported a growth in wholesale for the third consecutive month in February as demand for new cars continues to remain buoyant despite of rising prices and fuels costs.

The company dispatched 152,983 cars to its dealers and other domestic manufacturers during February, a growth of 11.8% over last year. The company supplies rebadged versions of its Baleno and Vitara Brezza cars to Toyota Kirloskar Motor.

Exports were up by 11.9% to 11,486 units.

The sales of automobiles in India have been on the rise despite a sharp increase in fuel prices, which breached the Rs 100-mark in some places in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. Automakers have also undertaken price hikes in the range of 1-3% at the beginning of the ongoing calendar year and are considering another round of price hikes due to high input costs.

Maruti Suzuki’s total domestic sales for the fiscal year starting April have declined by 12.7% to 1.46 million units after negligible business in April and May due to lockdowns to contain the Covid-19 pandemic.
