Riverside targets trucks seeking short cuts on Van Buren Boulevard – Press-Enterprise

An effort is underway to crack down on big trucks taking shorts cuts through Riverside neighborhoods near the 215 Freeway.

Signs banning most trucks with four or more axles are up along westbound Van Buren Boulevard, from the 215 to Dauchy Avenue in the Orangecrest neighborhood, a city of Riverside news release states. Officials with the city and Riverside County are working together on the project.

The city is prohibiting these commercial trucks from using westbound Van Buren, from Coyote Bush Road to Dauchy Avenue. The goal is keeping them on the 215 instead of leaving the freeway during heavy traffic to find alternate routes through neighborhoods, the release states.

The new limits aim to address concerns about noise created by large trucks and to prevent damage to the asphalt on this part of the street, the release states.
