Should I sell Franklin India Feeder US Opportunities Fund?

I have started investing in Franklin India Feeder- Franklin US Opportunities Fund through a monthly SIP of Rs 2,000. I am aiming for a long term (10+ years) with a moderate-to-high risk appetite. Considering this fund hasn’t performed well in the last one year and I have just started investing 3-4 months ago, should I continue investing through SIP or switch to a different fund?

It is not clear why you chose to invest in an international fund or what were your expectations while investing in the scheme. It is also not clear whether this is a small part of your mutual fund portfolio or whether you just started investing. Without these details, it is not possible to offer you personal advice.

You have chosen an overseas scheme with a good performance record. As you know, the schemes invest in US stocks. You can’t compare its performance with Indian equities. That is not the reason why investors choose overseas schemes. They just want to make sure that they also benefit from the US market.

As a rule, you should invest only a smart part of your portfolio in the overseas market. Most financial experts believe developing markets like India will offer superior returns over a long period of time.

If invested in the scheme without understanding overseas funds, educate yourself about it. Or, seek the help of a mutual fund advisor.
