Sixty science, tech ‘boffins’ take part in science camp – Power utility supports cause – Namibia Economist

More than 60 grade 10 and 11 female learners from different schools in Windhoek and around the country recently took part in the Women in Science Camp (WiSci), hosted by Namibia University of Science and Technology (Nust)

The camp which was held in partnership with the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Embassy in Namibia aims to encourage female learners to pursue studies in science-related fields in order to close the gender gap through access to education.

Furthermore the goal of WiSci is to expose young women to the variety of career paths available in STEAM fields. Internationally, there is a strong gender imbalance in the STEM fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The WiSci Camp aims to help bridge that gap through access to education, mentorship opportunities, and leadership training.

To facilitate the smooth running of the event, Power utility, Nampower donated 25 tablets to the value of N$37,500 for the camp and for use at their respective schools.
