An unspecified number of Spotify users have received emails notifying them that the company has reset their account password.
According to TechCrunch, the users were told that their password was changed “due to detected suspicious activity”, although the music streaming giant did not disclose further information.
Spotify spokesperson Peter Collins told TechCrunch that the move was part of the company’s “ongoing maintenance efforts to combat fraudulent activity on our service”.
Collins added that the password reset was a precautionary step on behalf of the users, and that they “strongly recommend users to not use the same credentials across different services to protect themselves”.
The article further states that several users who received the email, upon contact, shared that they use the same password across different websites while others claim that they used passwords unique to Spotify.
