SPV Foundation posts Rs 3 cr grant for bioscience research; TIFR scientist Vidita Vaidya bags research grant

Sree Padmavathi Venkateswara Foundation, the Vijayawada headquartered body that has been supporting research in medical education and care, has announced a grant of Rs 3 crore for research in biological and chemical sciences.

Headed by Dr Chadalawada Sudha and Dr C. Nageswara Rao, the SPV Foundation said the grant will be spread over three years with Rs 1 crore a year.

Vidita Vaidya, a young scientist working at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), has secured the grant of Rs 3 crore. The TIFR scientist proposes to take up research on stress at young age leading to changes in brain and eventually leading to changes in behavioural patterns.

Vidita’s Neurobiology lab at TIFR currently studies the molecular, epigenetic and cellular changes that contribute to persistent alterations in human behaviour. It also focusses on molecular and cellular adaptations that arise from sustained antidepressant treatment.

The young TIFR scientist secured the SPV Foundation’s research grant by competing with 109 other applicants, screened by a panel of eminent scientists who worked on the applications for the last few months.
