STARBUCKS’ popular Pumpkin Spice Latte is back at branches everywhere from today.
The hot coffee drink is packed with cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves flavours and topped with whipped cream, making it an indulgent treat for Brits to have.
Starbucks describes the drink as a “scrumptious combination of Starbucks espresso roast, pumpkin pie flavoured sauce and steamed milk, topped with whipped cream and pumpkin pie spices.”
The pumpkin spice latte served with semi-skimmed milk as standard in short size (the smallest) costs £3.35 and has 187 calories.
All the drinks can be customised in a number of ways including a larger size and non-dairy milk alternatives.
There’s even the option of vegan whipped cream to top off the drink which is called PSL for short.
There are also cold versions of the autumn classic: the pumpkin spice coffee frappuccino and pumpkin spice cream frappuccino.
Last year, Starbucks had an iced pumpkin spice latte and iced pumpkin spice cold foam macchiato, but these are not the menu this year.
How to save money eating out
THERE are a number of ways that you can save money when eating out. Here’s how:
Tastecard – This is a members club where you pay to have access to discounts worth up to 50 per cent off at thousands of restaurants. It costs £4.99 a month or £34.99 for the year.
Loyalty schemes – Some restaurants will reward you with discounts or a free meal if you register with their loyalty scheme, such as Nando’s where you can collect a stamp with every visit. Some chains like Pizza Express will send you discounts for special occasions, such as your birthday, if you sign up to their newsletter.
Voucher schemes – Look out for voucher schemes offered by third party firms, such as Meerkat Meals. If you compare and buy a product through CompareTheMarket.com then you’ll be rewarded with access to the discount scheme. You’ll get 2 for 1 meals at certain restaurants through Sunday to Thursday.
Student discounts – If you’re in full-time education or a member of the National Students Union then you may be able to get a discount of up to 15 per cent off the bill. It’s always worth asking before you place your order.
The smallest (tall) pumpkin spice coffee frappuccino and coffee-free pumpkin spice cream frappuccino costs £4.25.
Starbucks has also relaunched its rewards programme this week.
People who sign up will now get three stars for every £1 spent in-store on beverages, food, coffee at home products or merchandise in participating stores.
Members with 150 stars can get a free drink of their choice and people who earn 450 stars over a year reach gold level status.
Gold level members will be given treats such as free extra espresso shots, syrups and whipped cream, plus they can receive a free drink of their choice during their birthday month.
You can join for free by downloading Starbucks’ app.
People who already are members of Starbucks’ rewards programme will get a prompt to update their app and password with the new scheme.
Any previous stars collected won’t be lost in the upgrade.
Meanwhile, Tesco has published a recipe of how to make your own version of the drink.
It contains real pumpkin puree, mixed spice and cinnamon to give it the real Autumnal taste.
They’ve said that with all the ingredients, it costs just 62p per portion.
