Summer sun and a vegan beauty boom boosted Superdrug’s revenues by 3.3 per cent, taking total sales to £1.28 billion.

Profits at the chain, which has 816 outlets, fell by 5 per cent to £88.3 million.

Bosses hailed ‘pleasing results in challenging times’ – a nod to the turmoil on the high street.

The hot 2018 summer saw a 29 per cent rise in sales of sun cream while its own-brand vegan beauty products jumped by a quarter.

The firm says some of its best-selling vegan products include a charcoal face mask, mascara and acid spritz.
