Germany-based open source company SUSE has appointed 15 year ICT industry veteran Charlie Yates as country director for the Australia and New Zealand (ANZ) region.

Based in Melbourne, Yates will be responsible for overseeing the ANZ business operation and driving strategic growth for SUSE in the region.

Yates reports to Andy Jiang, vice president and general manager for SUSE Asia Pacific and Japan.

Yates has more than 15 years’ experience in the technology sector with enterprise software platforms as well as supplementary technologies such as cloud, analytics, IoT, AI and software-defined infrastructure.

And he has worked for technology companies including Citrix, Siemens and IBM.

“With SUSE’s recent independence, there has never been a better time to be joining the company. I am delighted to be working closely with our global SUSE team, our ANZ customers and local partners to significantly drive the growth and adoption of open source within Australia and New Zealand,” Yates said.

“We are going to be focused on achieving significant growth for the SUSE business and delivering successful outcomes for our customers. SUSE is the trusted and preferred partner for SAP S/4HANA migration and clearly this presents a huge opportunity for us as we help customers unlock their business values and potential with our open source platform.

“Further, we want to help customers in their digital transformation with our agile, enterprise-grade open source solutions, edge to core to cloud.”

Jiang said Yates’ appointment is an important milestone for the company as it looks to further expand its presence for SUSE in the region.

“We are excited to welcome Charlie to the team and his vast experience in the technology sector is an asset to us,” Jiang said.

“As a proven leader, Charlie truly understands what it means to be customer centric and employee focused. We are committed and dedicated to ensuring our customers in Australia and New Zealand receive the best support and advice around open source.

“Charlie’s extensive experience in technology puts him in a strong position to support and work with our resellers and customers on delivering SUSE’s open source technology and solutions in this region.”
