SWAT Team Removes Barricaded Teaneck Auto Detailer From Home – Daily Voice

A SWAT team stormed a Teaneck home early Saturday afternoon and seized a 72-year-old auto detailer who’s had trouble before with the law.

John Heywang barricaded himself in the Ogden Avenue home after Bergen County sheriff’s officers went there Saturday morning to execute a removal order, law enforcement sources said.

“What began as a civil eviction became a welfare check after there was no answer at the door,” Sheriff Anthony Cureton said.

Officers determined that Heywang was inside but wasn’t answering the door, Cureton said.

So reinforcements were called in.

After 90 minutes of attempts to negotiate with him, the Bergen County Regional “Bravo” SWAT team breached the door and seized Heywang without incident around 1:30 p.m.

A self-proclaimed chemist, Heywang has produced liquid glass polish and finish for race cars and other high-performance vehicles.Four years ago, an employee at the Chase Bank branch on Ayers Court in Teaneck told police that Heywang “had made several threatening statements while conducting business at the bank. One of the statements made reference to a weapon.”

A law enforcement source at the time told

that Heywang claimed to have “the guns and ammo to hurt over 3,000 people.”

The Dumont native left but was grabbed minutes later by New Milford police at his Heavenly Bodies auto detailing business in their town after an alert was broadcast for his black Mercedes Benz GL 500.

They seized three guns there, police said.
