Tesco Bank to hire 120 technology staff across Edinburgh and Newcastle – insider.co.uk

Tesco Bank is creating 100 information technology (IT) jobs in Edinburgh and doubling the size of its new technology hub in Newcastle to 40 posts.

The lender – which has 3,900 workers spread across Edinburgh, Glasgow and Newcastle – said the latest roles would include systems architects, designers, project managers, IT and business analysts, and test, software and systems engineers. The company said the new posts would involve cloud computing technology.

Chief operations officer David Bowerman said: “It’s an exciting time at Tesco Bank as we invest to develop propositions that better meet the needs of Tesco shoppers. We know there are deep talent pools in Edinburgh and Newcastle, and we hope to tap into these further as we bolster the technology function that does so much to help deliver for more than five million customers every day.”

Tesco Bank, which has its head office in Edinburgh, is the latest company to give Scotland’s tech sector a boost. Earlier this month, takeaway delivery firm Deliveroo unveiled plans to open its first “tech hub” outside London in Edinburgh and create 70 jobs, while Glasgow-based Beeks received a £2 million research and development grant from Scottish Enterprise to expand its head office as part of an automation project.
