The Galaxy Note users, who have already updated their devices with the latest Android 4.1.2 XXLSZ Jelly Bean firmware, may follow our step-by-step tutorial below to root their devices. Below are three methods to root Samsung Galaxy Note N7000 running on Android 4.1.2 XXLSZ Jelly Bean.

Method 1- Root Galaxy Note to install apps and do not wish to install a custom ROM or custom Mod. This method uses SuperSU file released by senior XDA developer, Chainfire.

Method 2- Root Galaxy Note and install PhilZ Kernel with CWM Touch Recovery zip via stock recovery, which will not increase flash counter and the device will not lose warranty

Method 3- Root Galaxy Note and install PhilZ Kernel with CWM Touch Recovery file using Odin (this increases flash counter). The last two methods use stock recovery file by senior XDA developer, Phil3759.

Pre-requisites

1) Install USB Drivers for Samsung Galaxy Note on the computer.

2) Enable USB Debugging Mode. [Press Menu>> Settings>> Applications. From there navigate and click on Development option and ensure the USB Debugging Mode is turned on.]

1) Download the Update-SuperSU-v1.25.zip [Alternative link]

Note: Do not extract the file.

2) Connect the phone to the computer using USB cable and then copy the downloaded zip to the external SD card of the device

3) Disconnect the phone from the computer and switch it off. Now enter into recovery mode by pressing and holding the Volume Up, Home and Power buttons together until the screen turns on and the Samsung logo appears. Now release the Power button while keep pressing the other two buttons until a black screen with green Android bot and Blue text appears

4) Using the Volume buttons scroll down to ‘Apply update from external storage.’ Then navigate to the Update-SuperSU-v1.25.zip file, select it using the Power button and confirm installation

5) Once the installation is completed, select ‘reboot system now’

After the device boots up successfully, a message saying ‘Android is upgrading’ will appear on the screen. When the phone is ready to use, search for an app called SuperSU from the app list. Open the app and update the binary when asked to do so.

Root method 2- Root Galaxy Note on Android 4.1.2 XXLSZ Jelly Bean via stock recovery

1) Download PhilZ-cwm6-XXLSZ-OXA-4.63-signed.zip [Do not extract the file]

2) Connect the phone to the computer using USB cable and then copy the downloaded zip to the external SD card of the device

3) Disconnect the phone from the computer and switch it off. Enter into recovery mode by pressing and holding the Volume Up, Home and Power buttons together until the screen turns on and the Samsung logo blinks for two times. Now release the Power button while keep pressing the other two buttons until a black screen with green Android bot and Blue text appears

4) Using the Volume buttons scroll down to ‘apply update from external SD card.’ Then navigate to and select the PhilZ-cwm6-XXLSZ-OXA-v4.63-signed.zip file by pressing the Power button. Now confirm installation

5) Once the installation is completed, select ‘reboot system now’

1) Download PhilZ-cwm6-XXLSZ-OXA-4.63.tar.md5 for Galaxy Note to the computer

2) Download Odin3_v3.04.zip file

3) Switch off the Galaxy Note and enter into Download Mode. Press and hold Volume Down, Home and the Power buttons together until the screen turns up. Then a screen will appear asking to press the Volume Up button to enter into Download Mode

4) Open Odin on the computer

5) Connect the Galaxy Note to the computer using USB cable while it is in the Download Mode. Wait until the ID: COM port at Odin turns blue and an ‘ADDED’ message comes

6) In Odin, click on PDA button and select the PhilZ-cwm6-XXLSZ-OXA-4.63.tar.md5 file

7) Verify that the Auto Reboot and F.Reset Time options are selected in Odin

8) Double check everything and click the Start button in Odin to begin installation

9) Once the installation process is completed, a PASS message will appear on Odin and then the Galaxy Note will reboot
