The internet figured out when Google I/O 2019 will kick off – Pocket-lint

Google holds a developer conference every spring, and now thanks to web sleuths, we know when this year’s show will start.

On Friday 25 January, the search giant tweeted a puzzle for developers to decipher in order to learn when Google I/O 2019 will be held. And it didn’t take them long to figure out the date. The annual confab is set for 7 May to 9 May, according to an answer from Till Kottmann, who replied to Google’s original tweet. Per usual, the setting will be Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View, California, near the company’s global headquarters.

Now, this isn’t the first time Google has released I/O puzzles, but they usually take longer to solve. This year’s clue consisted of some sort of programming puzzle that most people won’t be able to understand. “I hope this transmission finds you well, and all is under control. It’s been too long,” the puzzle reads. Yeah. We didn’t try to solve the puzzle ourselves. But you can check it out below.

And here’s the conference’s dates, as spotted by Kottman, who found a now-deleted tweet that revealed the dates hidden in plain text:

Anyway, the conference will likely cover a broad range of topics, including details about Google’s upcoming major update to Android OS and improvements to its products and services such as Google Maps and Google Search. Last year, CEO Sundar Pichai unveiled Duplex, a human-sounding AI that can make appointments on your behalf. It’s mind-blowing.
