These are the cheapest places to get your car repaired in the UK – so how does your region rank?

THE true cost of getting your car repaired has been revealed – and some drivers are paying hundreds more depending on where they live.

The price of parts and labour across different regions in the UK has been broken down to find out where motorists are getting the best deal.

Research conducted by Moneybarn found motorists in England’s North West paid the least for parts and labour when putting their car in for a service.

The vehicle finance provider calculated the cost of the nine most common vehicle repairs and the labour charges to fit each part.

Prices across 12 UK regions were then compared to the national average cost of each car part.

It comes as no surprise that London proved the most costly place for almost every repair job.

But the cost of a cylinder head gasket repair in the capital showed the most shocking difference.

Motorists could expect to pay £821 for the part and labour in London, while the same job would cost more than £200 less in the West Midlands.

The cylinder head gasket proved the most expensive of any part to be replaced across all regions, despite having one of the lowest purchases prices with online retailers, at just over £22.

Scotland came out as the second cheapest region overall for repairs, while motorists in Wales and Northern Ireland were in the mid-range, but still get a better deal than those in East Anglia, South East, East Midlands and South West.

Simon Bayley, Sales and Marketing Director of Moneybarn, said: “The price difference between the cost of car parts and labour costs is staggering, especially when comparing north and south prices.

“Understanding that some of these repairs can take over four hours to fix, there is no surprise mechanics charge a significant amount for labour.

“But for those repairs that don’t take up too much time, it’s quite shocking to see how much these can cost. That said, you can’t put a price tag on the safety of motorists and the public.

“Regular maintenance upkeep should help prevent major problems occurring with your vehicle. If drivers do find a fault, they should take it to a garage immediately.

“You can still do research from home to find reasonable garage and mechanic costs in your area.”
