A backpack company has come up with a novel new idea for securing your things during the morning commute.

They took a leaf out of the smartphone handbook and added a fingerprint scanner.

The Agazzi urban backpack, which is currently running a Kickstarter campaign, lets you scan your finger or thumbprint to unlock bindings that hold the main compartment closed.

As if that wasn’t enough, the high-tech bag also features built in lights for when you’re cycling or rummaging around inside it. There’s a red light on the back and another white one inside the main compartment.

The team behind the bag says it’s about 95% of the way done but and it plans to ship it out to backers of the Kickstarter campaign in October. The price is set at £189 – pretty steep for a regular backpack but not out of sorts for the swish executive options.

The bag weighs in at 1.45kg and has a 23-litre capacity and seems to hold its shape well. You’ll need to provide a USB power bank to keep the lights working but it does also have reflective strips that’ll help if you’re cycling in the dark.

Do we really need a fingerprint scanner on a bag? Probably not, but it’s a cool idea nonetheless.
