Chinese tech giant Xiaomi has shown off one of its smartphones reaching a full charge in just eight minutes.

In about the time it takes to make a cuppa, the phone’s 4,000mAh battery is filled up with the company’s 200W ‘HyperCharge’ tech.

The phone in question is a modified Mi 11 Pro and Xiaomi says it’s a record speed for charging a phone.

What’s more, the company says it has a wireless charging system that would do the same thing in a mere 15 minutes.

Perhaps the days of having to leave a phone on charge overnight are nearing an end?

In actual fact, it’ll be a while before these kinds of charging speeds become available to regular folk.

But phone companies have latched on to charging speed as a means of differentiating their products to customers. Case in point: the Warp Charge on the OnePlus Nord that charges the phone up to 70% in half an hour.
