Thomas Phillippe joins Zomato as General Counsel

MUMBAI: Restaurant discovery and food delivery firm Zomato has appointed GT Thomas Phillippe as its General Counsel. Thomas was earlier partner at legal firm Khaitan & Co.

Phillippe’s appointment marks the first such role at Zomato which has previously been working with legal firm AZB & Partners as its advisor.

Thomas has over 13 years of experience as a private practice lawyer in both domestic and cross-border M&A, private equity, and venture capital transactions. During this time, he has acted for both international and domestic acquirers and targets on several marquee transactions and has also advised clients on various entry and exit strategies in the country.

Over the last several years, Thomas has played a significant role at e-commerce and financial technology companies in advising them on capital raising endeavours, day-to-day operational matters involving regulatory complexity and bespoke contracting solutions to facilitate innovative product rollouts, a role that he is looking to emulate at Zomato.

Phillippe is the latest amongst a series of senior management hires at Zomato, which had earlier seen a significant leadership churn.

In the past few months, the Ant Financial backed firm hired GE veteran Sameer Maheshwary as its CFO, MakeMyTrip executive Mohit Gupta as the CEO for its food delivery business and Egon Zehnder’s Rohithari Rajan to head its ad sales business globally.
