Top 3 fund houses buy select midcaps and smallcaps in August

The top three fund houses by assets under management namely SBI MF, HDFC MF and ICICI Prudential MF have bought select mid and small cap stocks in August, shows data from Accord Fintech.

Among midcap names, SBI MF increased its exposure to Bharat Forge and Ramco Cement. The fund house made fresh purchases in V-Guard worth Rs 170 crore in August. V-Guard an electric appliance manufacturer with a market cap of Rs 7540 crore, is favoured due to its long term growth outlook. and strong mangement. Among small cap names, the fund house made purchases in VST Industries, Persistent Systems, NCC, Fairchem and Finolex Industries.

HDFC Asset Management, bought into small cap stocks like TeamLease, VIP Industries, Rain Industries, GHCL and Transport Corporation of India. Teamlease saw its price move by 41% in the last three months. Amongst midcaps the fund house added Kajaria Ceramics and Sun TV and booked profits in Yes Bank.

Among small caps ICICI Prudential MF added Sudarshan Chemicals,, NIIT Ltd. Sudarshan Chemicals the worlds fourth largest pigment manufactureris likely to benefit as companies reduce dependency on China.
