Two startups in Chennai to create one lakh AI experts – The Hindu


Two start-ups, incubated in the Indian Institute of Technology – Madras, have come together to create one lakh candidates who will be experts in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Deep Learning (DL) by 2020.

One Fourth Labs, a start-up founded by the Institute faculty, has been offering AI and DL advanced courses for ₹1,000.

GUVI, which trains students in tier 2 and 3 cities to learn programming in regional languages, will collaborate with One Fourth Labs to reach out to a wider student group.

It currently offers courses in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi, Bengali, Arabic and English.

The courses are open to all students strong in high school mathematics and Python programming.

GUVI co-founder and Chief Executive Officer S.P. Balamurugan, said,“Students can sign up at www.guvi.in to access the ‘Deep Learning’ course created by IIT-M professors. Coding contests will be conducted periodically. The platform is gamified to retain learners’ attention and ensure the learners complete the course.”

So far, it has upskilled more than 1.5 lakh engineers in latest technology skills.

Pratyush Kumar, co-founder, One Fourth Labs, and Computer Science and Engineering professor at the IIT-M, said, “It is a six-month online programme divided into four stages. Participants will receive certificates at the end of every stage.”
