The US economy added a weaker-than-expected 75,000 jobs in May, although the unemployment rate remains at its lowest level in half a century.

Non-farm payrolls dropped from April’s 224,000, which was revised downward from the 263,000 initially reported, the Department of Labor revealed on Friday. That was lower than the median 185,000 predicted by economists.

The unemployment rate was unchanged at 3.6 per cent, matching its lowest level since 1969.
