A company has agreed to settle Federal Trade Commission claims that its security failures allowed a hacker to access the personal information of about 1 million consumers.

The proposed settlement with InfoTrax Systems L.C., announced Nov. 12, is the latest FTC action designed to hold a company accountable for its data security practices and protecting consumer data.

InfoTrax’s failure to have reasonable security safeguards allowed an intruder to exploit vulnerabilities in its server and a client’s website, the FTC alleged in its complaint against the company and its former chief executive, Mark Rawlins.
