Venezuela's neighbors to weigh new carrots or sticks at Monday summit

WASHINGTON, Feb 22 (Reuters) – Leaders in the western hemisphere are weighing whether to boost aid pledges to Venezuela or tighten sanctions to isolate President Nicolas Maduro at a summit next week in Bogota, a senior U.S. administration official told reporters on Friday.

The response from the Lima Group of nations in the region, slated to meet on Monday, will depend on whether the Venezuelan military defies orders from Maduro to block convoys of humanitarian aid planned for this weekend, the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity.
