VIDEO: How tech-enabled solutions can improve safety and security of short-term rentals – PhocusWire

It’s been nearly 25 years since the launch of Vrbo and since
then, particularly in the past decade, the private accommodation space has flourished
and matured, with a mix of booking platforms, property management companies and
support services staking a claim in the $84 billion industry.

The death of five people from a shooting at an Airbnb rental
outside San Francisco on Halloween has put a spotlight on issues of safety and
security
in the private accommodation space.

To discuss how booking platforms and property management companies
can address these concerns and the role of technology as part of the solution, we
convened a panel of industry leaders in the PhocusWire studio during The Phocuswright
Conference in Florida in November.

Participating
in the discussion: Vrbo senior vice president and general manager Jeff
Hurst, Turnkey Vacation Rentals CEO John Banczak and Terry Jones, an advisor to
CertiStay, founder of Travelocity and founding chairman of Kayak.
