Virginia Tech at the "Top" of the List for 2023 Four-Star Troy Ford Jr – Tech Lunch Pail

While Virginia Tech is looking to put the finishing touches on their 2022 class, their priority targets for the 2023 class are starting to come into the picture. One of those players is four-star LB/DL Troy Ford Jr with the Hokies already off to a strong start in his recruitment as he told us.

“They are definitely at the top of my list. They are offering me more as an athlete not just linebacker so I like that they believe in me like that,” Ford said.

He added this to provide more context for why the Hokies are at the “top” of his list.

“It’s a great school and I’ve watched a lot of their players. They develop good players and I love the energy they have there that you see on the field and in the stadium,” Ford said.

Virginia Tech has also kept pushing for Ford fairly well led by defensive grad assistant coach Korey Rush. Ford has also built a strong relationship with Rush as he described to us.

“It’s really good. I really like that he played defensive end which I play a lot of right now so he knows the defensive side really well,” Ford said.

Ford also told us that he is also in contact a lot with his other three offers from Notre Dame, South Carolina, and Georgia Tech while Duke is also showing a lot of interest in him currently.

The major interest shouldn’t come as a surprise as Ford had a strong sophomore season with 69 tackles, 5 sacks, 13 QB hurries, and 4 additional tackles for loss in 13 games on his way to earning First Team All-Region honors. He also played some on offense finishing the season with 11 receptions including 4 receiving touchdowns.

Looking ahead to his junior season, Ford told us that he wants to have at least 70 tackles this season while also leading the state of Georgia in sacks, a pair of lofty goals but ones that he’s shown the potential to be able to achieve.

As 2023 recruiting starts to pick up in the coming months, keep an eye on Troy Ford Jr as a potential priority target for the Hokies in the defensive front 7.
