WhatsApp update may bring one big change you’ll love and one you may hate – Express

WhatApp users could soon see two big changes arriving on this hugely popular chat app and one is sure to be far more popular than the other.

According to a report by Android Police, the messaging service is getting ever closer to launching a Dark Mode with new screenshots showing exactly how this new look will appear on devices.

This latest view is backed up by a recent post from WABetaInfo who also spotted a dark themed background hidden within the latest beta version of the app.

Dark Mode has been rumoured for a while and these latest updates could mean that a launch is coming soon.

Many apps including Instagram, Facebook Messenger and Gmail now offer this setting so it makes sense for WhatsApp to follow.

So that’s the change we think people will like but there could also be something coming soon which may not be so popular.

As many people may be aware, Facebook purchased WhatsApp back in 2014 and now it seems it wants to put its stamp on this app.

In fact, some users are now seeing the new Facebook logo when they launch it on their devices.

When loading WhatsApp for the first time the splash screen now reveals the words “from FACEBOOK.”

This proves the social network is continuing to push its branding onto the other apps within its portfolio.

Facebook recently relaunched its branding with a new logo that is says, ”was designed for clarity, and uses custom typography and capitalization to create visual distinction between the company and app.”

Whether people who use WhatsApp will want to be reminded on a daily basis that the app they are using is owned by Facebook remains to be seen but we’re not totally convinced it will be a popular decision.

This news comes as WhatsApp users have just received some other new extras on the messaging service.

These include the ability to secure your messages on Android via the fingerprint scanner.

When enabled, this useful new security feature will prompt WhatsApp users to place their fingerprint on the scanner when the app is loaded-up to prove it’s really them – despite the smartphone itself already being unlocked.

From last week, WhatsApp has introduced a new privacy setting and invite system to help you decide who exactly can add you to groups.

The new feature, which rolled-out in India last month, lets you decide whether anyone can drop you into a new group, or whether they have to already feature in your contacts. WhatsApp has also added the ability to create a blacklist of people who can never add you into a Group Chat, no matter whether they appear in your contacts app or not.
