Webintravel (WiT)  is collaborating with Amazon Web Services (AWS) for the first time in its annual Startup Pitch event, offering AWS Cloud credits, training, and support to the 12 shortlisted startups selected to participate in the WiT Startup Pitch 2018.

The WiT Startup Pitch is an annual event, open to all travel-related startups, up to five years old.  WiT seeks to highlight ground-breaking new ideas and clever, entrepreneurial minds that are pushing the boundaries in travel technology. The WiT Startup Pitch, now in its 10th year, received strong interest, drawing entries from around the world, serving different segments of the industry. After an intense round of virtual assessment, 12 shortlisted ventures have been selected to make a live pitch at the WIT 2018 Bootcamp in Singapore this October 15.

AWS is the world’s most comprehensive and broadly adopted cloud platform, offering  over 125 fully featured services for compute, storage, databases, networking, analytics, machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things(IoT), mobile, security, hybrid, virtual and augmented reality (VR and AR), media, and application development, deployment, and management. AWS provides startups with the low- cost, easy-to-use infrastructure needed to scale and grow through programs such as AWS Activate which provides the resources they need to quickly get started on AWS – including credits, training, and support.

Each shortlisted startup in the WiT Startup Pitch 2018 will receive AWS service credits and support for up to one year.

“WiT has been evangelising on behalf of the travel and hospitality industries in the Asia Pacific region for the past 13 years, and continues to inspire the next generation of industry talent, by highlighting and supporting innovative, technology-led businesses. AWS is excited to support both WiT and the shortlisted participants in the WiT Startup Pitch 2018,” said David Peller, AWS Worldwide Head of Business Development for Hospitality.

The 12 shortlisted ventures for the WiT Startup Pitch 2018 are:

  • Airbuy
  • Caption Hospitality
  • Carepod
  • Check Mate Technologies
  • Nommi
  • Octotrip
  • Pebblar
  • Portier Technologies
  • Split
  • Travel Ads Network
  • Trell
  • TripClub

Joining them will be BookMeBus, winner of Echelon’s Most Promising Travel Startup at the TOP100 Flight Club, in a partnership between the Singapore-based tech media e27 and WiT.

“The time is ripe for travel startups in Asia. Investors from all over the world are turning their attention to this part of the world, looking for the next big thing. Each year, we have seen the interest in the startup space grow significantly, and this has resulted in a higher level of innovation at our startup pitch.

“After 10 years of running these competitions, we are pleased to have Amazon Web Services work with us, adding significant value to the ecosystem we have created over the years. The biggest reward is seeing the startups that have come through our platform succeed. We wish this latest batch of 12 the best of luck in presenting their pitches next month,” said Yeoh Siew Hoon, founder and managing director of WiT.

All shortlisted ventures are now invited to make their live pitch to an international panel of mentors at the WiT 2018 Bootcamp in Singapore this October. Three finalists will then move on to the Grand Finals the make their presentation at the WiT Main Stage conference at the Singapore Marina Bay Sands Expo & Convention Centre on October 17, 2018.
