Wooha Brewing acquired by North Coast Brewing from administrators

Wooha Brewing Company has been bought out of administration by North Coast Brewing.

The deal, for an undisclosed sum, adds to the portfolio run by Kenny Webster, which includes Isle of Skye Brewing and Black Wolf Brewery, together with several other beer brands and links with trade, wholesale and export markets.

Founded in 2015, Wooha Brewing was responsible for beers such as ‘Hop Stampede’ and ‘Jenny from the Bock’.

In 2017, the business invested in a 16,000 sq ft facility in Kinloss, Morayshire, and was developing its sales both in the UK and overseas.

But at the end of March, it blamed “unsustainable cash flow problems” caused by the rapid contraction of the global hospitality and licensed trade industry during the pandemic, as well as the costs for exporters arising from Brexit.

At the time, 12 members of staff were made redundant, with two being retained to assist with the administration process.

Commenting on the acquisition, North Coast director Kenny Webster said: “We are delighted to have secured a deal with FRP and look forward to incorporating the brands and assets of Wooha Brewing Company into our new company, North Coast Brewing.

“We have ambitious plans to grow and the acquisition provides us with access to high quality production facilities, a range of quality brands and an established network of trade and consumer customers.

“We hope to restart brewing at our new site very soon and, as the business develops, we hope to create a number of new jobs.”

Tom MacLennan and Iain Fraser, partners with administrators FRP, helped sell the business, assets and goodwill of Wooha.

Fraser added: “We wish the management team and staff every success as they integrate the former Wooha Brewing Company into their business model and with their forward plans for further expansion.”
