London scientists call for monitoring of UK bat population to prevent next Covid pandemic


ondon scientists have called for closer monitoring of Britain’s bat population after several species were found to harbour four viruses related to the Covid pathogen.

Researchers from Imperial College and University College London screened faecal samples from 16 of the UK’s 17 species of bat. They discovered four species of coronaviruses, two of which had never been found before.
