Mastodon Women Impressive in Season Opener – Purdue Fort Wayne Athletics


FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Purdue Fort Wayne women’s track and field team had a strong showing to open the 2023-24 campaign on Saturday at the Mastodon Opener.  

Nakia Harris-Campbell won the weight throw (16.70 meters). The ‘Dons took four of the top five spots in the event with Ali Sparks in third (15.77 meters), Lia Rivers in fourth (14.91 meters) and Rosiebella Fiabema earning fifth (14.73 meters). Rivers took home the title in the shot put (13.46 meters).

Kelsey Shatava earned the high jump title, thanks to a mark of 1.51 meters.

The ‘Dons went 1-2-3 in the long jump. Louiza Kruiswijk won the title (5.61 meters), Mariah Oberhaus (4.67 meters) and Martia Williams (4.55 meters) followed.

Jesseca Hudson-Turpin (8.72 meters) won the 60 hurdles. Sophia Buck (9.28) took second.

Madeline McClerren, Aniya Young, Kassie Jordan and Jesseca Hudson-Turpin ran a time of 4:05.78 to win the 4×400 relay.

Jordan earned a win in the 300 meters earlier in the day (41.64) with Korynne Moga in second (41.72).

The ‘Dons are in action again on Friday at Indiana Tech’s Warrior Open.
