National Council – Andrew Avrick | College of Engineering Technology | RIT – Rochester Institute of Technology


Andy Avrick joined the CET National Council in the spring of 2023, bringing with him a wealth of experience and a distinguished educational background. He holds a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering from the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), earned in 1980, and a master of business administration (MBA) from Pepperdine University in 1985.

Over the course of his professional career, spanning nearly three decades, Andy held pivotal roles within Raytheon Systems Company and Hughes Aircraft Company. Notably, as a senior manager in systems engineering, he led a large team supporting the continuous testing of complex space payloads, overseeing various critical aspects such as team leadership, cost control, requirements management, and customer interaction. Furthermore, his responsibilities included the proposal lead for multiple hardware configurations, showcasing his expertise in project development and management. Before this, he served as a senior principal multi-disciplined engineer with honors, where he managed assembly integration and test teams and was responsible for cost account management, scheduling, customer interface, and process enhancement.

During his tenure, Andy also contributed as a senior scientist/engineer, where he led product teams in the development of unit and system-level test stations, test software, mechanical fixtures, and their associated documentation. His technical leadership extended to the role of technical section head, where he directed the test engineering section, overseeing the development of test equipment and production support. In his earlier career, Andy served as a project engineer, focusing on the development of unit and system-level test stations and associated software for a Laser Doppler Velocimeter system. As a member of the technical staff, his responsibilities included the design, specification, implementation, and support of thermal, vibration, and shock environmental test equipment.

Beyond his professional achievements, Andy Avrick has actively engaged in his community. Notably, he served as the Citizens’ Bond Oversight Measure Q committee chair for the Redondo Beach Unified School District, demonstrating his commitment to educational improvement. He has also been involved in computer building and repair, sharing his technical skills, and generously volunteered his time at local elementary and middle schools. Currently, Andy’s focus includes traveling with family and friends and indulging in his passion for photography.
