New Volkswagen Polo GTI Edition 25 revealed

Volkswagen has announced a new limited edition version Polo GTI Edition 25 in celebration of the model’s quarter century. Based on the recently updated Polo GTI, the new special includes a range of extra features including lowered suspension and extra equipment, although final UK pricing and specifications are yet to be finalised.

As standard, the new Polo GTI will feature VW’s sports suspension option that lowers the base car’s ride height by 15mm and features unique spring and damper tuning. This is paired with a set of 18-inch Adelaide alloy wheels finished in a unique gloss black finish. The roof and exterior mirrors are also finished in gloss black with a bespoke ‘one of 2500’ decal mounted to the side.

Inside, Volkswagen has fitted black leather sports seats with embroidered GTI logos replacing the standard car’s tartan cloth trim, matched to gloss black interior trim elements and the usual red stitching found on the steering wheel, gear knob and centre console.

This specification builds on the GTI’s existing technical package that combines a 204bhp variant of the EA888 turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Power is sent to the front wheels via VW’s XDS ‘virtual’ limited slip differential that quells unwanted wheelspin on the front axle by braking an individual front wheel. Straight-line performance figures are the same as the standard Polo GTI, which means it reaches 62mph in 6.5 seconds and tops out at 149mph.

In Germany, the Edition 25 is priced at 35,205 euros, a 1750 euro premium over the standard version. Local pricing has yet to be confirmed, but we expect a similar lift over its £28,905 price point.
