The Future of Electric SUVs: Skoda's Impending Epiq Reveal – Jason Deegan

Prepare for the future of electric SUVs as Skoda gets set to unveil a new contender in the market, the Epiq. This newcomer is poised to go head-to-head with rivals such as the forthcoming Renault R5 E-Tech and Citroën ë-C3. With an expected date in 2025, this sleek machine is estimated to be priced around €25,000, before bonuses.

Market Outlook for Electric Urban SUVs

The urban electric SUV market is becoming increasingly competitive. The upcoming Citroën ë-C3, for example, is set to be priced at €23,300 before bonuses. The Renault R5 E-Tech is also expected to hit the market this autumn. Amid these developments, Skoda has been building anticipation for the Epiq, with recent sketches of the new model being released.

The Epiq’s Distinctive Design

The Epiq’s design boasts an angular line and a spacious interior, bearing similarities to the widely-appreciated Skoda Yeti model. Despite being shorter than the Yeti with a length of 4.10 meters, the Epiq offers a larger trunk space of 490 liters. Its exterior features a sculpted hood, glossy black Tech-Deck front face, T-shaped LED element, and Matrix LED headlights. The front bumper takes inspiration from Jeep models, embracing the vertical slit concept. Adding to its sleek look is an aerodynamic roofline which concludes with a small spoiler, a vertical rear window and T-shaped tail lights. The Epiq sports a matte white paint job accentuated by bright orange accents, black plastic door bottoms, and wheel passages.

Minimalist Interior with a Modern Twist

The interior of the Epiq showcases a minimalist design. This marks a first for Skoda, reflecting the Modern Solid design that speaks to the brand’s new aesthetic vocabulary. Eco-friendly materials have been used throughout, supplemented with clever storage solutions. The center console features an open compartment, fitted with an induction charging zone for smartphones. The luggage compartment hosts hooks for bags, loading devices, anchor points, and hidden storage under the floor. A two-branch steering wheel is adorned with new Skoda typography, haptic buttons, and orange highlights. Both the dashboard and the multimedia screen are digital.

Battery Performance and Future Releases

The Skoda Epiq boasts a range of 400 km. Set to be fully revealed in 2025, the Epiq is part of Skoda’s promise to launch six new electric models. Among them, the Skoda Elroq is also expected this year. This model could potentially give the Peugeot e-3008 and Renault Scénic E-Tech a run for their money.
