If you want to improve your backhand or just try hitting for the first time, here’s how to get involved on a budget . . .

FREE SESSIONS: Private tennis coaching is usually pretty pricey.

But Tennis For Free runs group sessions and drills for all ages that don’t cost a penny.

There are 44 sites across the country, with plans to launch more soon.

Just search for a session in your area, at tennisforfree.com/sites.

WEEKEND FUN: Families can also pick up rackets and play for free at one of the LTA’s Big Tennis weekends.

The events feature coaching, games and competitions and are taking place at thousands of venues across the country throughout the summer.

You just turn up in your sports gear.

Find an event near you and book your spot at lta.org.uk/play/big-tennis-weekends.

FREE COURTS: Many local parks hire out tennis courts for free, or small fees, though you will usually have to book.

Look on local selling sites for cheap rackets and tennis equipment.

Then take a friend or children and smash a ball around to build up confidence.

It’s also worth looking up local coaches and clubs to see if they will give free trial sessions — even one class can give valuable tips to take forward.

FREE GEAR: As women players at Wimbledon are now allowed to wear dark shorts on court, Puma and period underwear brand Modibodi are launching website Uniformchangeroom.com this Saturday.
