Bank holiday: Are banks closed for Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti on Monday, February 19?



Banks in India are closed on public holidays, with some being closed for state-specific holidays. In February banks will be closed for 11 days, according to the RBI holiday list.

Are banks closed on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti?

Banks are closed in Maharashtra. While, in other states, banks will work as regular working days.

The Indian state of Maharashtra observes Shiv Jayanti, also called Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj Birth Anniversary, as a festival and public holiday. The event is observed on February 19, the day of Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s birth, who was the first Chhatrapati of the Marathas.

Banks will be closed in few states on the occasion of Losar, Basanta Panchami/Saraswati Puja (Shree Panchami), Lui-Ngai-Ni, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti, State Day/Statehood Day, Nyokum in February 2024.

Bank holidays in February

February 19: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti: Banks are closed in Maharashtra.
February 20: State Day/Statehood Day: Banks are closed in Mizoram.
February 26: Nyokum: Banks are closed in Arunachal Pradesh.

Certain financial transactions cannot be done on bank holidays such as depositing a cheque. However, one can do many financial and non-financial transactions using net banking, mobile banking, Whatsapp banking.

Long holidays in March

There will be two long bank holidays in March 2024. Banks in many states are closed on March 8, followed by second Saturday and Sundays.

Holi falls on Monday after fourth Saturday and Sunday so banks in many states will be closed for three days.
